"Reveal thyself"

posted Wednesday, 21 June 2006
There are many bloggers on the internet. Some are anonymous, others are not. Even those who are not anonymous, including myself, very few people actually post up pics. So I have decided to challenge this trend. I am going to post a pic up of myself, and then I am going to tag a fellow blogger who will then have to do the same. Here it goes...

Rael Levinsohn 19 June 2006

I tag Chardal and R' Harry Maryles
Let the revelation begin…..
(Even without the tag from me, feel free to start this yourself on your own blog)

Although I understand where you're coming from, having someone approach me in the street that I don't know but they know who I am is not my idea of being on equal footing.

Depending on the type of blog you have, someone could approach you angry about something you've said. In New York, my work is known but my face isn't. It allows for privacy.

The Capt - I hear where you are coming from. Some bloggers by the very nature of their blogs, or the type of posts they write are better left unseen. However when I started this blog, my policy was was that I would never write something that I would not be comfortable saying in the real world. For that reason, I do not feel uncomfortable showing my pic.

I agree. It is my opinion that websites are an extension of the person. In my case, matters discussed online are consistent with the reality that offline there are a good number of strangers who know my business anyway due to certain public activities. I also feel there is a responsibility to be open to an extent if one presents commentary. Readers should have some idea who is speaking to them, imho.
