The dating of the destruction of the First Temple in Jerusalem, as well as the following exile and return of the Jews is one where there is a major discrepancy between the tradional Jewish sources and the secular sources. The issue is too complex to cover in one post, however I originally sent in a post to Avodah with a typed up abstract from Universal Jewish History Volume 1: Pgs 29 - 33 by Philip Biberfeld.
